CLOVIS, Calif. – Freshman javelin thrower Austin Beyer will represent the University of Idaho at the 2016 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in California this weekend.  The meet will serve as the qualifier for the 2016 IAAF U20 World Championships in Poland.

Beyer will get things started on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Veteran’s Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School.  In all, 17 athletes have qualified for the event.

Beyer had an impressive freshman campaign with the Vandals.  He threw a season-best mark of 60.44 meters at the WAR IX in Spokane in early April.  He finished just outside of scoring range at the Big Sky Championships, earning ninth overall with a throw of 54.99 meters.

The field at the Championships is stacked.  Several national qualifiers will be in attendance, as well as Second-Team All-American Hudson Keffer, who finished 14th at the NCAA Championships in Eugene.
