MADISON, Wis. - Same score, different outcome. Michigan Tech (5-3-0, 4-2-0) failed to complete the sweep of Wisconsin (4-2-0, 1-1-0) losing 4-2, Saturday.
After a scoreless first period, the Huskies drew first blood after Jordan Foote scored just 24 seconds into the second period as he tapped in a rebound from a shot by Jimmy Kerr. Eric Kattelus also picked up an assist on the goal.
The Badgers did not waste much time scoring a goal of their own as Sean Nolan found the back of the net at 2:03 of the period.
Wisconsin scored what seemed to be the go ahead goal at 11:37 of the third period but the goal eventually waved off.
“I skated out toward the puck and my legs were taken out from behind. I looked at the ref and he said they were going to review it,” said Michael-Lee Teslak, who got his first Saturday start of the season.
The Badgers would eventually score two more, including its one power play goal of the night, to extend its lead to 3-1.
The Huskies took a time out at 17:43 in an attempt to mount one more attack.
The hard work payed off as Tyler Shelast scored a power play goal to pull the Black and Gold back within one at 18:07. He was assisted on the goal by Geoff Kinrade and Drew Dobson.
The Huskies would play the final minute with the extra attacker but could not score again.
Wisconsin scored an empty net goal with just one second remaining in regulation.
Teslak finished with 30 saves in the Tech loss.
Shane Connelly made 16 saves in the Badger win.
The Badgers held a strong 34-20 advanage in shots on the evening.
