COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State rowing head coach Andy Teitelbaum was named Central Region Coach of the Year, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced. Additionally, Ulrike Denker and Claudia Schiwy earned First Team All-Central Region honors.

Collecting second team regional laurels were Claire-Louise Bode and Carolin Helmholz.

Teitelbaum, who was named the 2011 Big Ten Coach of the Year, guided the Buckeyes to a Big Ten title May 15 at Eagle Creek Park. In his 16th season as head coach of the Buckeyes, Teitelbaum led the Scarlet and Gray to six Top 3 finishes at the most recent conference championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Gold-medal performances by the Second Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four helped Ohio State compile 142 points.

This past weekend, the Buckeyes earned a Top 10 finish at the NCAA rowing championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. Appearing in their 12th-consecutive national championship, the Teitelbaum-led Buckeyes collected their 11th Top 10 finish in program history.

The four all-region recipients rowed in the First Varsity Eight during the 2011 season. Prior to the NCAA championships, Bode, Denker, Helmholz and Schiwy helped seal the Big Ten title with their runner-up finish. The Buckeyes needed either a win or second-place finish to lock up the title and managed to clip Michigan by .48 seconds for that coveted finish. Ohio State would go on to finish second in the third-level final at the NCAA championships.

Additionally, the CRCA announced its 2011 Scholar-Athletes and 10 Buckeyes made the cut - Ingrid Aasaaren, Denker, Kristin DiJosie, Helmholz, Claudia Herpertz, Corinne Meinert, Jill Mohr, Emily Ralph, Schiwy and Kara Shropshire.

In order to qualify for CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore athletically and competed in an NCAA championship boat (1V8, 2V8, 1V4) for at least 75 percent of the spring season or regional conference event.
