NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After dazzling in her collegiate debut in SJU's 71-57 road win over Columbia in the Hawks' season opener last Thursday, Saint Joseph's freshman forward Claire Melia has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. The honor marks the first of Melia's collegiate career.

Melia poured in a game-high 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, a pair of three-pointers, and a near-perfect 7-of-8 shooting from the stripe. The rookie out of Monasterevin, Ireland added a game-high four helpers, three rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in 31 minutes of action.

Melia and the Hawks (1-0) are set to host Temple in SJU's 2019-20 home opener this evening. Opening tip is set for 7:00 p.m. in Hagan Arena.
