NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball squad has been predicted to finish 10th in the Atlantic 10 this year, according to the 2019-20 A-10 Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll conducted by the league's 14 head coaches. The poll, announced Tuesday, serves as a precursor to the start of the Hawks' season on November 7.

VCU received 11 first-place votes for a total of 189 points. Led by 2019 Coach of the Year Beth O’Boyle and All-Conference Selections Tera Reed, Taya Robinson, and Danielle Hammond, the Rams return nearly the entire roster, including all five starters. VCU finished the 2018-19 season 13-3 to share the regular season title with Fordham and secure the No. 1 seed, but ultimately finished the season as the A-10 runner-up before advancing to the second round of the WNIT.

Dayton was picked second in the poll with 177 points and one first-place vote followed closely by Fordham with 174 points and one first place vote.

The Flyers are led by senior Jayla Scaife, 2019 All-Conference First Team and All-Championship selection. Despite falling to VCU in the semifinals of the 2019 championship, Dayton still advanced to postseason play for the 11th consecutive year and intends to do so again in 2020. UD will also play host to the 2020 Women’s Basketball Championship at UD Arena March 6-8.

Fordham, last year’s regular season co-champion and A-10 Conference Champion, loses Mary Goulding, 2019 Championship Most Outstanding Player, but returns half of the scoring duo that lead the Rams last season in Bre Cavanaugh.

Saint Louis took the fourth spot with the final first place vote and 138 points followed by Davidson (135), George Mason (116) and George Washington (114). Massachusetts (107) and Duquesne (98) took the eighth and ninth spots, respectively, with Saint Joseph’s (67) rounding out the top ten. Richmond (11th), Rhode Island (12th), St. Bonaventure (13th) and La Salle (14th) finished out the poll.

The Atlantic 10 wraps up preseason coverage with the announcement of the 2019-20 Preseason All-Conference Teams Thursday, Oct. 31.
