GILBERT, Ariz. – The Saint Joseph’s field hockey team is ranked 14th in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll of the 2019 season, released on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hawks are ranked for the 31st consecutive poll after claiming their third Atlantic 10 title in as many years over the weekend. SJU topped Lock Haven, 2-1, in the semifinals on Friday before shutting out Richmond, 1-0, in the championship game on Saturday.
Saint Joseph’s remains atop the national statistical rankings in goals, points, and scoring average, while ranking second in assists and scoring margin.
SJU met six teams this season that appeared in Tuesday’s poll, posting a 3-3 mark. SJU topped #7 Boston College, #10 Delaware, and #18 Rutgers, while falling to #1 North Carolina, #11 Michigan, and #13 Syracuse.
The Hawks will make their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season when they take on #3 Maryland on Friday. The game, scheduled for Charlottesville, Virginia, is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
