NORFOLK, VA--Norfolk State scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 12-5 victory over Old Dominion (11-13) Tuesday evening.

ODU led 1-0 in the top of the first when junior catcher Joe Velleggia walked with the bases loaded to bring home centerfielder Brandon Shelton.

NSU then scored seven runs in the bottom half of the inning on with the help of four walks and three hits, highlighted by a two-run single from John Rasberry.

ODU scored three runs in the sixth inning. As Chris Baker singled home Edgar Hernandez. Austin Wright walked with the bases loaded to plate Joe Velleggia and Austin McGowan walked to force bring John Malbon.

ODU's final run came in the eighth inning as Austin McGowan walked and later scored on Jake McAloose's single to left field.

Brandon Shelton and John Malbon led the Monarchs with two hits each, while Rasberry had three hits for the Spartans and Brandon Hairston knocked in three runs for NSU.

The Monarchs return to action this weekend in its Colonial Athletic Association opener against defending CAA Tournament champion Georgia State.
