Ryan, Killian Named Harris Teeter Student-Athletes Of The Week
CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston junior midfielder Avery Ryan (Florence, S.C.) of men’s soccer and senior goalkeeper Lauren Killian (Blythewood, S.C.) of women’s soccer were named Harris Teeter Student-Athletes of the Week for competition held between Aug. 29-Sept. 4.
Avery Ryan | Men’s Soccer | Junior | Florence, S.C. | Finance
Ryan turned heads for the Cougars this week, particularly in the men’s soccer team’s 2-0 road win at Furman on Sept. 3 in Greenville, S.C. He scored the game-winning goal in the first half by getting the ball shallow in the Furman zone, sprinting past the off-guard defenders, and hammering it home farside past the keeper. Later on, Ryan notched an assist on the second goal of the game versus the Paladins. The junior finance major was extremely judicious with his attempts all game, with all four of his shots finding their way on frame.
Lauren Killian | Women’s Soccer | Senior | Blythewood, S.C. | Public Health
Killian rewrote the College of Charleston women’s soccer record books this week recording her 225th career save in a 4-0 shutout of intracity rival Charleston Southern on Aug. 31 at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. She broke a 13-year-old school record held by former CofC goalkeeper Alice Keeney (224 career saves) since 2003. Killian has stood strong over the last three contests anchoring a dominant Cougar team that has outscored its opponents, 10-0, in that span in shutouts of Sam Houston State, CSU and Coastal Carolina. The public health major currently boasts a 275-minute shutout streak having racked up 25 saves and a 1.06 goals against average on the season.
