RICHMOND, VA. – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced its postseason awards this week, revealing Josh Tierney and Cara Butcher had been named CAA All-Academic recipients for the College of Charleston cross country program.

Cara Butcher had a banner season in 2015, becoming just the fourth All-Conference recipient in women’s cross country program history at the College. Butcher not only finished first among her teammates five times over the course of the season, but racked up five Top 5 overall finishes, highlighted by her winning the CofC Classic outright. Butcher ran 21:08.4 at the CAA Championships to become the second-fastest 6K runner in CofC history, and also 17:47.6 at the Royals Challenge to cement herself as the fifth-fastest 5K runner in school-history. With a GPA of 3.945, the elementary education major has truly been a champion in both the classroom and the race track.

On the men’s side, Josh Tierney earned All-Academic acclaim, boasting a cumulative GPA of 3.533 as an exercise science major. Out on the course this season, Tierney was rock-solid all year for the Cougars, logging Top 5 finishes among his teammates in all seven races he competed in this season. The junior finished second among his teammates at the WCU Invitational by running a 16:22.33 in the 5K race, and hit the highlight of his season when he ran a 26:27.4 at the Royals Challenge to establish a new 8K personal best.

The Cougars wrapped up the cross country season at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, where the women took 23rd and the men grabbed 30th in the region.
