Butcher, Carlin Named Harris Teeter Student-Athletes of the Week

Cara Butcher | Cross Country | Junior | North Massapequa, N.Y. | Elementary Education

For the third consecutive meet and fourth time this season, Cara Butcher finished first among her teammates at this weekend's CofC Classic at Winthrop Farm in Rock Hill, S.C. The junior not only won the meet individually, but did so in dominant fashion. With her time of 18:13.5 in the 5K race, Butcher beat out second place Kaitlyn Lingard of Western Carolina (18:41.7) by more than 28 seconds. The native of North Massapequa N.Y. was a key factor in the Cougars winning the team championship as well with a strong score of 21, nearly cutting second place Western Carolina's score of 60 in a third.

Junior Hamilton Carlin scored the game-winning goal to upset #22 Hofstra on a header in the 18th minute. The Cougars clinched their first CAA tournament berth since joining the conference in 2013 and handed the Pride their first conference loss of the season. Carlin is tied for second on the team in goals with two and has played in 11 games.
