Henken Advances To Medal Race Of Women's 49er FX

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston rising sophomore sailor Paris Henken (Coronado, Calif.) and her teammate Helena Scutt advanced to the medal race of the Women’s 49er FX class on Tuesday at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

After five days of preliminary competition, the Top 10 teams advanced to the medal race, which will be sailed on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 1:05 p.m. (ET). Henken and Scutt are currently ninth in the overall standings with 94 points, while Tamara Echegoyen and Berta Betanzos of Spain are in contention for Gold with 46 points along with Brazil and France.

Henken is the first female Olympian in school history and competing in her first Olympic Games. Competing for the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team, Henken and Scutt placed fifth in Race 4, won Race 5, fourth in Race 6, eighth in Races 8 and 9 and sixth in Race 12.
