Cougars Advance To ICSA Sperry Women's National Championship
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The College of Charleston women’s sailing team finished in fifth at the ICSA Women’s Western Semifinal Championship regatta held on Wednesday at the San Diego Yacht Club.
The Cougars totaled 177 points across the two-division event behind first-place U.S. Coast Guard Academy (84 points), second-place Yale (136 points), third-place Brown (147 points) and fourth-place UC Santa Barbara (155 points). They now advance to the ICSA Sperry Women’s National Championship to be held on May 26-27 at the same site.
In A-Division, the CofC women placed eighth with skippers Clare Dahl (Newport Beach, Calif.) in races 1-4, Beka Schiff (Tampa, Fla.) in races 5-6 and Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) in races 7-12. Crews included Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) in races 1-4, Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) in races 5-6, Emily Stuart (Newport, R.I.) in races 7-10 and Schiff in races 11-12.
Meanwhile, junior Nikki Medley (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) skippered B-Division to a fourth-place finish with junior crew Irene Abascal (Guatemala City, Guatemala).
The Cougars will now vie for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy with the Top 18 teams in the country – the Top 9-finishing teams from each of the Eastern and Western Semifinals competitions.
