Cougars Crowned SAISA Women's Spring Champions
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The No. 8-ranked College of Charleston women’s sailing team won the SAISA Women’s Spring Championship regatta by a 29-point margin of victory over South Florida on Saturday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex.
The Cougars raced on the Cooper River in a Northwest wind at 5-8 knots and tallied 30 points across both divisions combined. USF placed second with 59 points, Eckerd College third (65 points), Jacksonville fourth (82 points), UNCW fifth (101 points), Clemson sixth (106 points), Georgia Tech seventh (110 points), NC State eighth (115 points) and Miami (Fla.) ninth (143 points).
Senior Beka Schiff (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore Clare Dahl (Newport Beach, Calif.) skippered A-Division in races 1 through 9 with junior crew Bayley Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.) in races 1-3, 7-9 and junior crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) in races 4-6.
In B-Division, junior Nikki Medley (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) split skipper duties in races 1-3 and 4-9 with sophomore crew Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) in races 1-3 and senior crew Emily Stuart (Newport, R.I.) in races 4-9.
The Cougars will now focus on final exams and return to action next month at the ICSA National Championships to be held on May 24-June 3 at the San Diego Yacht Club in San Diego, Calif.
