RICHMOND, VA. – College of Charleston junior Cara Butcher added to her long list of accomplishments for the CofC track and field program Monday, as the Colonial Athletic Association announced her as a member of the CAA All-Academic Team.
Butcher, a native of North Massapequa, N.Y. and major in Elementary Education, earned the award with a cumulative GPA of 3.966. She was just as fierce on the track, where she became the second-best in CofC history in the 5000m (16:53.44), third-best in the steeplechase (10:45.29), and fifth-best in the 1500m (4:43.59). At the CAA Championships, she was the only member of the team to earn points in multiple events, doing so in the 5000m (fourth) and the steeplechase (sixth).
She joins fellow-junior Julisa Tindall and senior RoShani Glover in earning All-CAA acclaim. Tindall earned the honor by winning her second consecutive CAA High Jump title by way of a 1.76m leap. Glover meanwhile captured third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.15m to win her All-CAA accolades.
This marks Butcher’s second helping of CAA All-Academic acclaim this season, having also earned the distinction for women’s cross country back in the fall.
