Cassidy Qualifies for NCAA T&F East Regionals in Steeplechase
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The field of participants at the NCAA Track & Field East Regionals was announced today, revealing that CofC junior distance runner Carlee Cassidy had made the cut for the 3000m steeplechase.
The native of Canada ran a time of 10:32.95 in the event at the Raleigh Relays, which broke her own school-record by six seconds and became her qualifying mark for the postseason. Going into the CAA Championships, she sported the second-fastest time in the conference.
Cassidy narrowly made the cut for the field of 48 student-athletes allowed into the the competition, having clocked the 48th-fastest time in the region to make her the last one in. She’ll be in prime position to challenge her own school record, as well as make a splash at the meet as an underdog.
The NCAA East Regionals will be held in Jacksonville, Fla. at the University of North Florida. It will be Cassidy’s first trip to the UNF this season, after bypassing the UNF Spring Break Invitational back in March where the majority of her teammates were, to instead go to the Raleigh Relays. As fate would have it, that’s where she clocked her school-record time which punched her ticket to these NCAA Regionals.
Cassidy’s 3000m steeplechase is scheduled for Friday, May 27 at 8:50 p.m.
