Cougar T&F Heads to Boone for Mountaineer Outdoor Open
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston track and field program will compete in their penultimate meet of the season Saturday, when they will travel to Boone, N.C. for the Mountaineer Outdoor Open.
Competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m. with the women’s javelin throw. Track events begin at 1:30 p.m. with the 100m hurdle preliminaries. The meet is scheduled to be concluded by approximately 6 p.m.
In the College’s last meet at the Lowcountry Collegiate Invitational, senior RoShani Glover made school history by breaking the outdoor triple jump record with a distance of 12.32m. She’ll look to do the same to the CofC long jump record this weekend, which she’s currently just 15cm shy of matching. Freshman Jenny Martin is also in striking distance of a school-best, as her PR in the javelin currently sits within two meters of Christine Klinar’s mark of 41.85m set in 2013.
Over 20 schools will compete in this weekend’s meet. In addition to the hosts, Division I programs in attendance will include Charlotte, Morehead State, UNCG, Gardner-Webb, VMI and High Point.
The Cougars were scheduled to compete at Appalachian State earlier this month, but harsh weather conditions forced the meet to be cancelled. This will be the first time the CofC T&F program has visited Boone in six years, the last time coming during the 2010 SoCon Championships.
