RICHMOND, VA.  –  Samantha Martin and Kelly Sinclair have been named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher, and Rookie, of the week respectively, for the week of May 1 – 8.

This is the second time in 2016 that Martin has garnered CAA Pitcher of the Week honors, and the second time Sinclair has earned Rookie of the Week. The Cougars (33-21, 11-9) won all three of their games against Drexel over the past weekend. As a team, they allowed only one run the entire weekend, in what proved to be a crucial series towards earning the No. 3 seed in the CAA Tournament that is set to start on Tuesday, May 10.

Martin tossed two of the College's three games over the weekend, and over the course of 11.0 innings of work, she allowed zero runs, one walk and only four hits total. She struck out five batters, and Drexel was only able to hit for a .108 average against her over the weekend. She picked up two wins, and now has a 16-9 record on the season, and a cumulative ERA of 2.39 over the course of 161.1 innings of work (114 strikeouts). She was named the Pitcher of the Year by her coaches/teammates over the weekend.

Kelly Sinclair led the Cougars in batting over the weekend with a .667 average (6-9), including a perfect 4-4 in Sunday's game. She hit one double, drove home two runs, and drew on walk. Sinclair also put on a show defensively, making a number of impressive catches. She ended the weekend with four putouts and two assists. She played a huge role in the Cougar's sweep of Drexel over the weekend, and earning a berth in the CAA tournament.

Sinclair won her first CAA Rookie of the week award for the week of April 4-11. She was named the Defensive Player of the Year by her coaches and teammates over the weekend as well.

The Cougars’ regular season is now in the books, and they are now set to play Towson in the CAA tournament at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11. They will play a second game on Wednesday depending on the outcome of their first game, facing the No. 1 Seed James Madison if they win, or the winner of the No. 4/ No.5 game if they lose to Towson.
