CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team will host Drexel for its final series of the regular season, starting with a double header on Friday, May 6 starting at 3 p.m., and concluding with a single game on Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m.

The Cougars will celebrate seniors Rebecca Mueller, Carly Hansis, Chandler Frisbie, and Valerie Cassell at the conclusion of the game on Friday. This weekend series will play a crucial role in deciding the College’s post-season plans, as they currently are in play for a berth in the CAA tournament.

Charleston (30-21, 8-9) stands in seventh place in the CAA standings, but is only one game behind the No. 2 team, Towson, in the standings, leaving the No. 2 through 5 positions wide open. The College of Charleston defeated Hofstra twice over the past weekend, and has now won six of the last seven games. To earn this streak, the Cougars have relied on their defense, allowing 2.42 runs per game over their last seven.

Junior pitcher Samantha Martin has been on a roll over the last seven games, starting in four games and striking out 17 batters. She has allowed only five walks and three runs total over 20.0 innings of work. Sophomore slugger Taylor DuPree has also been on a bit of a hot-streak over the past seven games, racking up 13 hits and six RBI by way of a .481 batting average. She has also stolen five bases over that stretch, and is now one shy of tying her own program record for stolen bases in a season at 26.

Drexel (20-32, 0-16) will seek to spoil the Cougars CAA tournament hopes, as the Dragons have already been eliminated from post-season contention. They last played Wagner in a double-header on May 3, and split that series. As a team, Drexel is batting .271 through 52 games this season, and have a team ERA of 6.62. In contrast, The College is batting for a .228 clip as a team, and allow an average of only 2.89 runs allowed per game.

CofC owns the all-time series against Drexel at 4-3, with the Dragons taking two of three from The College last season. These two teams met for the first time back on Feb. 25, 2011, and Drexel won that contest, 4-2.
