CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women’s soccer team (3-3) has looked red hot with no signs of slowing down lately, and will shoot to keep the ball rolling this Friday against the visiting Stetson Hatters (1-3-2).
Over the past three games, the Cougars have been absolutely dominant, out-scoring their opponents 10-0 over that span. Keeper Lauren Killian has been an impenetrable wall in net, and currently rides a shutout streak of 275 minutes. She recently earned Harris Teeter Player of the Week accolades after breaking the College’s 13-year old record for most saves in a career, eclipsing the previous mark of 224.
CofC’s most recent victory came against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (2-3-1), who the Cougars vanquished 3-0 by way of three first-half goals. Laura Ortega scored the first two for CofC, and coupled with her two assists off corner kicks in the 4-0 win over Charleston Southern four days prior, she was named the CAA Player of the Week.
Stetson finds itself on a two-game skid coming off close losses to Florida Atlantic and Central Florida. The Hatter offense runs through junior forward Sarah Collins, who has four goals on the season, more than doubles any other member of her team in shots (25), and more than quadruples any other hatter in SOG (14). Between the posts, Kahri Smith has held things down with a 1.91 GAA and a .700 save percentage.
