CHARLESTON, S.C. – After a dominant week on the offensive side of the ball for the College of Charleston women’s soccer team, the Colonial Athletic Association recognized sophomore forward Laura Ortega as the CAA Player of the Week.
Sophomore Laura Ortega led the College of Charleston offense last week with two goals and two assists for six points while being a crucial component in the Cougars’ two victories. Ortega tallied two assists, including one on the game-winning dime, off of corner kicks in the Cougars’ 4-0 rout of Charleston Southern. She followed that up with two early goals in the 3-0 victory over Coastal Carolina, picking up the game-winning goal in the process just five minutes into the game. At eight points on the season thus far, not only does she lead the Cougars in that category, Ortega has already matched her point total from her entire freshman campaign.
The Cougars will return to action Friday at 7 p.m. when they host the Stetson Hatters at Patriots Point.
