CHARLESTON, S.C. – After securing a dominant 3-0 win over the Sam Houston State Bearkats over the weekend, the College of Charleston women’s soccer team (1-3) returns to the Lowcountry for a crosstown showdown with the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (2-1).
The Cougars split their games 1-1 over the weekend in Austin, falling 3-1 to the Texas Longhorns before bouncing back for the big win over SHSU. CofC lured the Bearkats into committing an early red card, and with the advantage in numbers secured went on to blast Sam Houston State with 29 shots over the course of the game. Laura Ortega got the game-winner, followed by Jessica Schifer and Raymara Barreto tallying their first goals of the season.
Charleston Southern rides a two-game winning streak, having shut out both Jacksonville and North Florida at home with 2-0 and 3-0 wins respectively. Senior forward Anna Sells notched three goals over those two wins, having picked up game-winners in both. The Buccaneers come off a 7-9-2 season in 2015, during which the Cougars picked up a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Schifer.
The contest is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Patriots Point. Tickets can be had by visiting CofCSports.com/Tickets or by calling (843) 953-COFC
