CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Colonial Athletic Association announced the conference slate for women's basketball today, revealing a challenging path for the College of Charleston program.
Conference play begins the day after New Year's, when the Cougars will trek out on the road to face the Elon Phoenix. After that first initial test, the College will enjoy three straight-home games, when they host William & Mary, UNCW and Elon again. The Cougars took both games off Seahawks in 2015-16, split the series with the Tribe, and dropped both contests to the Phoenix, so the opening stretch of the schedule represents a good balance of adversaries for the College to test itself against.
After the lengthy home-stand, an equally lengthy road-trip awaits the Cougars. Between January 15th and 22nd, CofC will face Towson, Drexel and Delaware in their respective buildings. Following that, the Cougars will split a home and an away with Hofstra and UNCW to close out the month of January.
As February begins, the Cougars host the Drexel Dragons on Friday, February 3rd at 6:30 p.m. for Homecoming. The last time the Dragons played in TD Arena, the Cougars rose to the challenge and pulled off the 49-46 upset victory. CofC closes out the weekend with a 2 p.m. meeting with Towson at home.
Another three-game road trip comes next, as the Cougars will head to the northern extremity of the CAA to face Hofstra and Northeastern on Feb. 10 and 12, and will close things out by visiting Kaplan Arena to face William & Mary.
On February 19th, the Cougars kick off their final home-stand of the season, and will do so against defending CAA Champs James Madison. This will mark the annual Play4Kay game, which is meant to raise awareness for breast cancer. The following weekend, matchups with Northeastern on Friday and Delaware on Sunday for Senior Day close things out for the month of February.
Starting in March, the College will begin to make Harrisonburg, Va. their home away from home. They will face the JMU Dukes on the road on the first day of the month to close out the regular season, and then a week later, the CAA Tournament will run from March 8 through 11. It too will be hosted in the JMU Convocation Center, shifting from Show Place Arena where it's been hosted the last three seasons.
