CHARLESTON, S.C. – Wednesday night will mark a special occasion for the College of Charleston women’s basketball team (9-18; 4-12 vs. CAA), who will honor their three upperclassmen for their Senior Game against the visiting UNCW Seahawks (7-21; 3-14 vs. CAA) at 6:30 p.m. in TD Arena.
Prior to tipoff, fans will have the opportunity to recognize Kelsey Booth, Jackie Luna-Castro and Shannon Hines, all of whom are set to wrap up their collegiate careers at the conclusion of this season. Booth and Luna-Castro came to the Cougars in the last couple years as transfers from Siena and UCSB respectively. Hines meanwhile will close out a four-year, 78-game career, all spent playing for the College.
The Cougars will look to halt a six-game skid after falling in both of their road-games over the weekend. With the CAA Tournament fast-approaching, momentum will be a highly sought-after prize, and a win could earn CofC just that.
Bre Bolden leads the Cougars on both offense and defense this season. At 14.1 points per game, Bolden is among the all-time leading scorers at the College. Having joined the CofC 1000 Point Club a few weeks ago, the junior currently stands at No. 23 on the all-time scoring list with 1082 points. On defense, she ranks 14th in the nation in steals per game at 2.96, and is seven shy of breaking her own single-season steals record of 87, set last year.
The Cougars and Seahawks have met 17 times dating back to the 1989-90 season, with UNCW controlling the narrow 9-8 advantage.
The two teams played earlier this season in Trask Coliseum. UNCW got off to the hot start, but a technical foul by Naqaiyyah Teague sparked a huge comeback rally from CofC, led by Kelsey Booth’s 11 fourth-quarter points en route to an 18 point afternoon. The College would prevail 64-53.
Like the Cougars, UNCW comes to the Lowcountry looking to snap a six-game skid. Their last contest was a 56-44 defeat at the hands of Delaware. Senior guard Shatia Cole managed 18 points and three steals in the losing effort.
UNCW is led by forward Jordan Henry, who ranks fourth in the CAA in rebounds (8.0 RPG) and blocks (1.5 BPG). Cole on the other hand leads UNCW in scoring with 12.9 points per game and 39 steals on the season.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tickets are still available, and can be obtained either by visiting CofCSports.com/Tickets or by calling (843) 953-COFC.
