CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston men’s basketball freshman forward Jarrell Brantley (Columbia, S.C.) was named to the 2016 Kyle Macy Freshmen All-America Team.

He was joined on the list by Dwayne Bacon of Florida State, Malik Beasley of Florida State, Jaylen Brown of Cal, Tookie Brown of Georgia Southern, Marquese Chriss of Washington, Bryant Crawford of Wake Forest, Mike Daum of South Dakota State, Tyler Davis of Texas A&M, Henry Ellenson of Marquette, Nick Emery of BYU, Jawun Evans of Oklahoma State, Marcus Evans of Rice, Ethan Happ of Wisconsin, Brandon Ingram of Duke, John Konchar of IPFW, Dedric Lawson of Memphis, Nick Mayo of Eastern Kentucky, Markis McDuffie of Wichita State, Dejounte Murray of Washington, Jamal Murray of Kentucky, Derick Newton of Stetson, Ivan Rabb of Cal, Malachi Richardson of Syracuse, Ben Simmons of LSU, Dylan Smith of UNC Asheville, Diamond Stone of Maryland, Caleb Swanigan of Purdue, Edmond Sumner of Xavier and James Thompson IV of Eastern Michigan.

Brantley was one of seven College of Charleston players to earn all-conference honors in 2016, becoming the first Cougar freshman to be named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year since Jermaine Johnson was named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2006. He and sophomore Cameron Johnson (Athens, Ga.) garnered All-CAA Third Team nods, while Brantley and freshman Marquise Pointer (Jonesboro, N.C.) were on the CAA All-Rookie Team.

This past season, Brantley averaged 11.7 points and a team-leading 7.3 rebounds per game and was tabbed CAA Rookie of the Week three times.
