CHARLESTON, S.C. – Though it comes a day later than originally anticipated, the College of Charleston women’s tennis team will open up their fall slate starting on Saturday when they host the 16th Annual CofC Invitational at Patriots Point.

Teams in attendance will include CAA-rival UNCW, as well as Stetson, Charlotte, Samford and Coastal Carolina. It is a field against whom the Cougars had mixed results last spring, with wins over UNCW (4-3 & 4-0) and Coastal Carolina (6-1) and a loss to Charlotte (3-4). The Cougars exposure to Stetson and Samford was limited to last year’s CofC Invitational in the fall slate.

The opening draws pit Mara Argyriou, Anastasia Palaska and Sarah Jane Jones against conference rivals from UNCW in singles play, and has Liza Fieldsend squaring off against Romane Delay from Coastal Carolina in the A1 bracket. In doubles action, Argyriou pairs up with newcomer Christi Woodson in the A1 bracket against the tandem of Tai Martin and Pierina Imparato from Charlotte. All told, seven members of the Cougars roster will be active this weekend.

Competition begins at 9 a.m. out at Patriots Point, and will run until approximately 5 p.m.
