CHARLESTON, S.C. – In what’s becoming a proud tradition for Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo’s women’s tennis program, the College of Charleston was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team for the seventh consecutive year.

“Ultimately these student-athletes are coming here for their education, and to earn an honor like this is the true measure of success for a season,” Anastopoulo said. “They’re succeeding in the classroom and doing a lot of community service, and it falls in line with what we’re trying to instill into them to be well-rounded. I couldn’t be more proud of them and all of our support staff who’ve helped make this possible.”

The commendation recognizes seven Cougars, including graduating senior Katherine Schofield, rising seniors Liza Fieldsend and Mara Argyriou, rising juniors Sarah Jane Jones, Rachel McNeely and Helena Nyikos, and rising sophomore Sarah Zschunke. All seven were named ITA Scholar Athletes on an individual level.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.0 scale. All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year, including fall 2015 and spring 2016.
