RICHMOND, VA. - The College of Charleston women's tennis team received conference-wide recognition for the sixth time this season on Tuesday following the announcement that Liza Fieldsend and Sarah Zschunke were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week.
The duo wrought havoc in third-flight doubles this past week by racking up a 3-1 record, providing a key role in the Cougars going 2-2 over that span. Fieldsend and Zschunke kicked off the week by clinching the doubles point against CAA-Rival Drexel by way of a 6-3 win over Erin Bowsher and Ryshena Providence, propelling the Cougars to the eventual 6-1 win. The two followed that up with a 6-4 win over Marshall's Marija Bogicevic and Anne Gulsrad, as well as a 6-3 victory over East Carolina's Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina. Their sole loss was a 6-3 setback to Alexis Casati and Daniela Pedraza of No. 68 Illinois.
In addition to her success in doubles play, Fieldsend was dominant in singles play as well, posting a 3-0 record in top-flight action. The junior picked off the Dragons' Honami Yazawa by a score of 6-2, 6-4, before beating the Thundering Herd's Derya Turhan (6-2, 6-2) and the Pirates' Celia Ruiz (6-2, 6-7(3), 6-2).
Fieldsend was previously honored as part of the CAA Doubles Team of the Week along with Rachel McNeely for their work in top-flight singles back in mid-February. Zschunke meanwhile becomes the sixth member of the Cougars to receive conference recognition on the year, joining Fieldsend, McNeely, Katherine Schofield, Mara Argyriou and Helena Nyikos.
