Newcomers Named To All-State and All-America Second Team

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Two College of Charleston men’s soccer newcomers recently received state and national honors by

Freshman midfielder/forward Owen Myers (Aiken, S.C.) out of South Aiken High School was named to All-State Team, while freshman goalkeeper Michael Waggoner (Memphis, Tenn.) out of Christian Brothers High School was selected to the Spring All-America Second Team. Waggoner was one of just 24 high school soccer players across the country receiving a nod on either the first and second teams.

The spring high school state and region teams are compiled by with consultation with coaches and media members from around the country. Players who make the state all-star list are eligible for the region all-stars. Meanwhile, the All-America list is selected from the eight regional all-star teams.

The Cougars will open the preseason with an exhibition slated against North Florida on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. (ET) at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Admission is free to the public.
