COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – The College of Charleston men’s golf team is in contention shooting a second-round 288 to put the Cougars two strokes back (+4) of current leader Ole Miss (+2) at the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove held at the Grove Club.
Three of the Cougars’ starters shot par-or-better on the second day of tournament play including senior William Rainey (Charlotte, N.C.), who shot 2-under and is currently in second on the individual leaderboard at -3 which is one shot back of Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss at -4.
Freshman Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.) carded a second-round 72 and is tied for 13th (+2), while senior Parker Derby (Columbus, Ga.) also turned in a score of 72 as the Cougars shot the second-lowest team round of the tournament on Monday.
“We played a very solid round of golf today,” CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. “I’m really proud of William Rainey and our team. We have a chance to win this tournament and I know our team is looking forward to playing tomorrow.”
