CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women’s golf team will open its season at the 2016 Fall Kickoff hosted by Louisville on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga.

The one-day tournament will be a five counting four format with 36 holes of continuous play on Tuesday. The field includes Auburn, Augusta, CofC, Georgia, Georgia State, Louisville and Vanderbilt.

“Having graduated five players off of last year’s team, this one-day tournament gives us a good chance to see where we’re at, as we head into the major part of our schedule this fall,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “Five of the six teams in the field went to NCAA Regionals last year.”

The Cougars will start senior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany), freshman Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Meerbusch, Germany), junior college transfer Josefine Garton (Linköping, Sweden), freshman Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.) and senior Vici Drechsler (Munich, Germany). Freshman Savanah Goodman (Easley, S.C.) will compete as an individual.

“I look forward to seeing what the new group can do against this competition,” Futrell said. “They are talented, but don’t have the experience at this level yet. However, with Laura (Fuenfstueck) back for her senior year, it definitely gives us someone who has had great success with us to play in that No. 1 spot.”

The fall slate also includes the CSU Wendy’s Invitational on Sept. 12-13 at Rivertowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., the Powerade Cougar Classic on Oct. 2-4 at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C., the Pinehurst Challenge on Oct. 10-11 at Pinehurst No. 1 in Pinehurst, N.C., and the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 23-25 on the Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Turtle Point on Kiawah Island, S.C.

“We will be missing graduate transfer Mary Fran Hillow (Orlando, Fla.) in our lineup for the first tournament, due to an injury,” Futrell said. “A transfer from South Carolina, she is expected to return for the CSU Fall Invitational next weekend.”
