BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – College of Charleston junior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) closed out postseason play at the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Shoal Creek Regional Championship tied for 29th on Saturday at the Shoal Creek Country Club.
Fuenfstueck carded rounds of 75, 76 and 80 for a 54-hole score of 231 (+15). She became only the third player in school history to advance to NCAA Regionals as an individual next to Stephanie Kirchmayr in 2008 and Leigh Whittaker in 2011.
“Laura hit it the best today she had all week,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “She struggled some on the greens, but really played fairly well. The golf course is tough and the pin positions made it even more difficult. While she didn’t play well enough to advance, she had a very good tournament.”
Saturday played toughest of all three rounds with a stroke average of 79.28. Marianne Li of Cal, Janet Mao of Northwestern and Matilda Castren of Florida State tied for first-place honors shooting 4-over par for the tournament.
