BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – College of Charleston junior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) is currently tied for 15th after shooting a first-round 75 at the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Shoal Creek Regional Championship held at the par-72 Shoal Creek Country Club.
Fuenfstueck is five strokes behind current individual leader Jennifer Hahn of Vanderbilt (-2). Only three golfers shot rounds of even-par or better. The average first-round score was 78.42 as the field battled 15 to 25 miles per hour wind gusts.
“Laura played a great round of golf in difficult conditions,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “With a scoring average of over 78 in a field like this one, it showed just how tough scoring conditions were today. Shoal Creek is a great championship golf course and tests all parts of your game, but especially your game around the greens. We made some drastic changes to her putting after conference and it definitely paid off today. We are in a very good position after day one and we feel confident that she can play even better tomorrow.”
Fuenfstueck will tee-off the No. 1 with her pairing group tomorrow morning at 8:15 a.m. (CT) / 9:15 a.m. (ET). Live scoring will be available at www.Golfstat.com.
