SOUTHPORT, N.C. – Senior Morgan Webber (Moore, S.C.) was one of only two golfers to shoot an under-par round on the second day of tournament play as the College of Charleston women’s golf team climbed to third and back in contention at the CAA Championship held at the Reserve Club at St. James Plantation.
Webber made five birdies in the second round and is tied for third individually with senior teammate Mary Chandler Bryan (Chapin, S.C.) at 9-over par. Junior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) is tied for 13th (+16), while junior Vici Drechsler is tied for 21st (+18).
Delaware (+45) holds a one-stroke lead over second-place UNCW (+46) and a five-stroke lead over third-place and two-time defending champion Charleston (+50). Elon is fourth (+51) and William & Mary fifth (+53).
“We played really well today under tough conditions,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “We are back in contention and look to have a fun day tomorrow. Congrats to Morgan on a great round today.”
Tomorrow’s final round will be split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. (ET). The Cougars will tee-off the No. 1 beginning at 8:45 a.m. (ET) in the final group comprised of Delaware and UNCW. Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com.
