RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston’s William Rainey (Charlotte, N.C.) and Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) were named Colonial Athletic Association Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Rainey, a junior sociology major, led the men’s golf team to a runner-up finish at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on April 5 at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. He earned individual runner-up honors, finishing the tournament at 5-under par (73-67-71). His second-round 67 was a career low as he led the field in par-4 scoring (3.83). Eight Top-50 ranked schools and 11 Top-100 players comprised the 15-team tournament field. As a team, the Cougars carded rounds of 290-281-285—856 (-8) to hold off No. 8 Auburn (-3) and finish second behind No. 16 South Carolina (-23). It marked the team’s sixth top-five finish of the season in nine tournaments played.

Fuenfstueck, a junior finance major, registered her fourth Top-10 finish of the season at the Intercollegiate on April 5 at Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. She carded rounds of 70, 73 and 74 (+1) to finish tied for fifth place at the tournament. It marked her second-highest finish of the year in nine starts for the Cougars. She made par 41 times over 54 holes, the second most in the tournament. As a team, the Cougars finished in a tie for eighth.

It marked Rainey’s second career weekly honor and Fuenfstueck’s 10th since the Cougars became a member of the league in 2013.
