John Lucas joins the Tribe coaching ranks in 2014 as a full-time assistant coach and will have responsibilities in just about every aspect of the program.

This will be Lucas' first full-time coaching appointment, after a number of years in college and after as a camp coach in North and South Carolina.  Lucas has assisted with a number of camps, including at Appalachian State and at the College of Charleston.  In his full-time work he was a videographer with Sierra Ford Photography, producing, editing, and distributing videos of major events such as weddings.  He also worked as a production assistant for Freelance Film.

Lucas was a collegiate volleyball player at Lees-McRae College in North Carolina, playing all four years for the Bobcats and captaining the team to a combined record of 57-49 from 2011-14.  He averaged 1.99 kills and 0.78 blocks per set in his career, while also hitting 58 aces (0.18 per set) and 1.01 digs per set.  In 2012, he was a second-team all-league selection in the Conference Carolinas, and had career-highs of 15 kills, four aces, 12 digs, and seven blocks in a match.  Among his coaches while at LMC was former Tribe volleyball player Cassie Crumal '11.

Before graduating cum laude in 2014 with a degree in communications and a fine arts minor, Lucas was an intern in the Lees-McRae communications office, working on projects to capture all aspects of campus life on photo and video.  Lucas grew up in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area where he played both club and high school volleyball.
