Scouting the Tribe
W&M is undefeated so far on the year, going 5-0 in the two pre-season meets.  Looking to lead the Tribe to some upsets of more highly-ranked teams is the senior duo of Ryan Gousse (Apopka, Fla.) and Nathaniel Hermsmeier (Charlottesville, Va.).  Gousse is the top returning runner in the CAA, taking silver last fall, and was an NCAA qualifier in the 3,000m steeplechase this spring.  Hermsmeier, a fifth-year senior, has been a steady part of the Tribe's scoring line-up for the last three years and looks to make the leap up into the regional top-25 this fall.

Also in line to challenge for the lead is junior Faris Sakallah (Chantilly, Va.), who has been the Tribe's top runner so far this fall.  Sakallah won the W&M Invitational two weeks ago to earn CAA Runner of the Week honors, and also teamed with redshirt-freshman Ryan Thompson (Bristow, Va.) to win the CNU XC Opener at the start of September.  Trevor Sleight (Asheville, N.C.) is making his season debut after serving as the Tribe's top runner for much of the early going last year, and David Barney (Lynchburg, Va.) is also back for the first time since earning All-East honors in the 1,500m in the spring of 2014.
