The William & Mary volleyball team fell in a hard fight Friday night to UNCW, 3-1.  The Tribe moves to 7-11 overall and 1-4 in league play, while the Seahawks improved to 13-4 and 4-1 in the CAA.

Box Score

Sophomore Sydney Biniak (Elkridge, Md.) played exceptionally well for the second match in a row, hitting .321 with 14 kills, as well as a pair of aces, pair of blocks, and six digs.  Including last Sunday's match with JMU, Biniak is averaging 3.22 kills per set and hitting .355 for the week.  Senior Dessi Koleva (Torrance, Calif.) collected her second-straight double-double, with 11 kills and 18 digs.

Also of note, senior Carolyn Albright (Raleigh, N.C.) spiraled closer to 400 career blocks, picking up a match-high four blocks to cut her magic number to 14.  She also had four kills and no errors, hitting .333.  Freshman Katie Kemp (Brentwood, Tenn.) had another quietly spectacular night, dishing out 24 assists along with seven digs and an ace.  Classmate Heather Pippus (Lake Oswego, Ore.) came just short of another double-double, scoring nine kills with 11 digs and an ace, and junior Gabrielle Pe (Virginia Beach, Va.) passed out 13 assists and six digs.

UNCW may have taken the first set, but W&M responded right away with strong second.  The Tribe got out in front by four points twice early, before the Seahawks rallied in the middle-going to go up 19-15.  Maddie Sanford (Georgetown, Texas) stopped the run, and after trading points back and forth, Kemp hit her service ace to cut the lead to two at 21-19.  Again came an exchange of points, then it was Pippus with the ace to cut the deficit to one, and three-straight miscues by the Seahawks put the Tribe in front, 23-22.  Koleva gave her team set-point at 24-23, and then again 25-24, then finished things herself with her sixth kill of the frame.  Biniak also had six kills in the set, while Sanford and Pippus had two each.

William & Mary is back in action on Saturday night, hosting the College of Charleston at 7 p.m.
