WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary women’s tennis senior Leeza Nemchinov travels to compete the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Nemchinov takes part in the 64-player qualifying draw with eight spots up for grabs in the exclusive 32-player main draw at the second ITA national championship event of the fall season. The Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., hosts the ITA All-American Championships.
Nemchinov is the first Tribe singles player since Maria Belaya in 2013 to take part in the ITA All-American Singles Championship. Belaya advanced to the main draw round of 16, including a trio of nationally-ranked wins in the qualifying flight. The first two rounds of the qualifying draw for Nemchinov are set to take place on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with the final round slated for Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The Tribe senior faces Pepperdine's Jean Runglerdkriangkrai, who is ranked No. 65 nationally, in the opening round. The winner will draw either No. 29-ranked Ellen Perez of Georgia or Stanford’s Krista Hardebeck, who is ranked No. 68. Nemchinov will need three victories to advance to the main draw, which is schedule for Oct. 8-11.
Nemchinov was ranked No. 46 nationally in singles to start the fall season. She compiled a 2-0 singles mark at the fall-opening Tribe Invitational, to improve to 69-30 over her W&M career. The reigning CAA Player of the Yea ranks just outside the top 10 all-time in singles winning percentage.
