Men's Tennis Set for ITA Atlantic Regional at Virginia Tech

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary men’s tennis team will send a contingent of seven athletes to the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center, Oct. 15-19. The Green and Gold will have seven competitors in the main singles draw and a trio of doubles teams competing for the regional title.

Senior Scott Huang, juniors Aidan Talcott, Addison Appleby and Damon Niquet as well as sophomores Christian Cargill, Alec Miller and Lars de Boer will all compete in the singles championship. de Boer and Miller lead W&M with three singles wins each during the fall, while Niquet is coming off a pair of wins in advancing to the third round of qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships.

In doubles, Cargill and Huang comprise the Tribe’s top pairing of the fall, going an impressive 4-1 at the season-opening Penn Invitational. Miller and de Boer sport a 2-1 doubles ledger entering the championship, while Appleby and Talcott will be the third Tribe doubles team competing in the event.

Since 2006, the Tribe owns a pair of ITA Regional Championships as the duo of Alex Cojanu and Colin O'Brien won the 2006 Mideast Doubles Championship and Jamie Whiteford captured the Atlantic Regional Singles Championship in 2011. Tribe head coach Jeff Kader is no stranger himself to success at the ITA Regional Championships as he advanced to the singles finals of the 2003 Mideast Regional as a junior.

The singles and doubles winners of the ITA Atlantic Regional will earn a spot in the exclusion USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 12-15. Hosted by Columbia University, the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship is the third fall national championship event in college tennis and includes a 32-player singles draw and 20-team doubles bracket for both men and women.
