 Aria Sabbagh

During his first season, Aria served notice that he would be continuing our scholar-athlete tradition as he not only earned first team All-American Scholar-Athlete honors from the College Gymnastics Association as well as a William and Mary Provost Award for academic excellence but he also moved into eighth place in the all-around and ninth place in vaulting in the Tribe’s all-time record books…In addition to placing third in the all-around, fifth on the parallel bars and sixth on rings and vaulting in the State Open, Aria received Rookie of the Week honors from the ECAC…He work ethic enables him to lead by example while he also excels as a teammate with his ability to analyze and communicate technical aspects of gymnastics to enhance their progress…As a junior gymnast, Aria was coached by Michael Thomas and Jeremy Bourdette at Emerald City Gymnastics…He is a first generation Iranian-American majoring in neuroscience with plans to go on to medical school…Aria’s parents are Fariba Behbod and Behrooz Sabbagh.

2015 Highlights
Earned USA Gymnastics Collegiate All-America honors after placing third at the championship meet with a career-high 81.35, which ranks sixth in W&M's record book ... Also earned career highs on rings (14.0), parallel bars (13.6) and high bar (13.65) at the USAG meet … Competed as an individual qualifier in all-around at the NCAA Championships …  Recorded career bests on pommel horse (13.1) and vault (14.4) versus Army … Registered a career-high 14.35 on floor during the first day of competition at the ECAC Championships … Earned W&M’s Provost Award … ECAC All-Academic Team honoree … College Gymnastics Association first-team Academic All-American Scholar-Athlete ...
