Spartanburg, S.C. – Western Carolina senior forward Carlos Dotson was today named the Southern Conference Player of the Week presented by GEICO for contests played Dec. 2-9. The award is selected by the league office and is the first for Dotson in his WCU career.
He is the second Catamount to win SoCon Player of the Week honors this season, joining redshirt junior guard Mason Faulkner who claimed the honor on Nov. 19 and Nov. 26.
Dotson averaged 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds with a pair of double-doubles in wins over Chattanooga and UNC Asheville. In the 87-77 victory over the Mocs on Dec. 3, Dotson tallied a season-best 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. It marked the fifth time in his career that Dotson has finished with 20-plus points.
The Riverdale, Md., native followed that performance with a team-best 16 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s 78-77 come-from-behind win over UNC Asheville, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field. He made 17-for-18 shots from the field last week for a 94.4 percent field goal percentage. Dotson has a team-best four double-doubles this year including three consecutive over the last three games.
Western Carolina, riding a five-game winning streak, returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at No. 23 Xavier at 6:30 p.m. The contest between the Catamounts and Musketeers – the third all-time series meeting – will broadcast nationally on FS1.
