LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI rifle teams placed third and fourth at home in a three-team rifle matchup against visiting Akron and North Carolina State.

Akron placed first in a close match with 4640 total aggregate points with North Carolina State coming in a close second with 4625 points. The VMI men earned 4487 aggregate points and the VMI women tallied 4421 aggregate points for third and fourth place, respectively.

In individual smallbore competition, senior Hunter Jacob (14^th) led VMI men with 563 points with Simon Krauthamer (18^th) earning 554 points and Stephen Garner (20^th) earning 552 points to round out the top 20 individuals. Nick Reynolds (21^st), William Davidson (22^nd), Alexander Allison (23^rd), James Doucett (25^th), Kolton Dobson (26^th), and Joseph Snyder (29^th) all represented VMI in smallbore competition.

For the women, sophomore Claire Lee (17^th) and senior Kelia Aardema (19^th) earned a top 20 finish in smallbore competition with 556 and 553 points respectively. Jessica Hankin (24^th), Savanah Diamond (27^th), and Samantha Reid (28^th) represented VMI women’s rifle team in smallbore competition.

In air rifle competition, freshman Alexander Allison (18^th) scored 569 points, and senior Hunter Jacob (19^th) earned 568 points for a top 20 finish in air rifle match. James Doucett (21^st), Nick Reynolds (23^rd ), Mason Tarkenton (25^th), Jason Gardner (27^th), Christian Dutton (28^th), and Ben Doehler (30^th) represented the VMI men in air rifle competition.

The women had a good showing in air rifle competition with sophomore Jessica Hankin (13^th) scoring 576 points, senior Kelia Aardema (17^th) tallying 572 points, and sophomore Samantha Reid (20^th) earning 568 points to place in the top 20. Claire Lee (22^nd), Lauren Dost (24^th), Savanah Diamond (26^th), and Sarah Robertson (29^th) also represented the women’s rifle team in air rifle competition.

VMI will remain at home as they host North Georgia next Saturday, October 19^th.
