Mark Price Named as Home Run Derby Captain
UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC -- Mark Price, a four-time NBA All-Star and the current head basketball coach for the Charlotte 49ers, is the third of eight celebrity captains named for the 2016 Harris Teeter and Tide+ Triple-A Baseball Home Run Derby presented by Clariant. The event, which kicks off the three-day All-Star celebration at BB&T Ballpark, takes center stage in Uptown Charlotte on Monday, July 11th. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. on July 11th and Price along with seven other celebrity captains, will sign pre-event autographs down on the field.

In all, a total of eight sluggers -- including six Triple-A participants (three from the International League and three from the Pacific Coast League) and two High School Home Run Derby winners (Riley Zayicek of Lake Norman High and Trent Alley of Charlotte Country Day) -- will compete for the 2016 Triple-A Home Run Derby championship belt. Home Run Derby participants and additional celebrity captains will be announced in the coming weeks leading up to the July 11th event. Price joins the already announced duo of former NFL veteran Jason Sehorn and Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson. Price will also represent The Harvest Center of Charlotte.

Price, a two-time All-American and four-time All ACC basketball player during his time with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the first round (25th overall) of the 1986 NBA Draft. He was then acquired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in a draft day trade. A talented point guard who spent a total of 12 seasons in the NBA, Price earned a number of accolades over his successful career. The Oklahoma native was All-NBA First Team (1993) and a two-time NBA 3-Point Shootout Champion (1993-94). For his achievements on the court, his number 25 jersey has been retired by both Georgia Tech and the Cavaliers. Price, who was an assistant coach with both the Charlotte Bobcats and Charlotte Hornets, was named as the 10th head basketball coach in Charlotte 49ers history on March 26, 2015.
