Joseph Uchebo To Play On Charlotte Hornets Summer League Team

Charlotte, N.C. – Former Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball standout Joseph Uchebo, who set several Conference USA single-season rebounds records last season, will play on the Charlotte Hornets summer league team.

The Hornets summer league team will have a four-day mini-camp at Time Warner Cable Arena, June 28-July 1. Then, the Hornets summer league team will play five games over seven days in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League, July 2 – July 8.

This past season, Uchebo was named second team All-Conference USA. He was the 40th different Niner to earn all-conference honors in the program’s history.

Uchebo finished the season averaging a double-double with 13.2 points per game to go along with a Conference USA leading 11.5 rebounds per game which ranked him ninth in the nation in rebounding. In Conference USA play, he averaged 15.8 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. In the UTSA game (February 25), he passed Kenyon Martin, who set the record in the 1999-00 season, for the Conference USA single-season record for rebounds in league play. He finished the season with a new Conference USA record for rebounds in league play with 239 boards. He also grabbed a Conference USA record 380 rebounds on the season. Uchebo tallied 24 double-figure scoring games, five 20-point scoring games, 18 double-figure rebounds games and 17 double-doubles, which is the fourth highest single-season total in school history. He also grabbed at least 18 rebounds in seven games last season. In the 49ers victory over Marshall in Halton Arena (January 21), he was the first Niner in 10 years to score 20 points and grab 20 rebounds in a game with his 24 points and 21 rebounds performance.

This marks the second straight year that the 49ers have a player on an NBA Summer League team after former 49ers standout guard Pierria Henry played for the Houston Rockets Summer League team during the 2015 Summer League season.
