CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sophomore shortstop Haley Pace was named Charlotte's 2016 Conference USA Spring Spirit of Service Award winner, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award recognizes the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant public service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The league selects one member from each school, and Pace is one of seven softball players on the list.
A 2016 CoSIDA All-American and C-USA All-Academic Team member, the Winston-Salem, N.C., native maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA as an accounting major and serves as the newly elected Charlotte Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President. She is also the 49ers representative at the league-wide SAAC meetings.
She was named an NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches' Association) Second Team All-Region selection in mid-May, and collected a league high 49 RBI as she started all 55 games for the Niners.
Already ranking sixth in career history with 16 homeruns, Pace belted a team-high nine on the season, and also led the squad with a .345 batting average and .571 slugging.
In addition to her duties with SAAC, Pace served on the inaugural Charlotte Leadership Academy and participated in several other service projects within the community.
Pace is the first recipient from the softball program since the school rejoined C-USA in 2014.
