Men's Tennis Announces the Signing of Jannik Opitz
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men’s tennis team announced the signing of the final recruit for next season’s team, as Germany native Jannik Opitz will be joining the Broncos starting in 2016-17.
“Jannik is the final addition to our 10-member squad for the 2016-17 academic year and we’re extremely excited about him,” WMU head coach Dave Morin said. “In the past two years he’s had wins over some very talented players which proves he has the ability to play at a very high level.”
Opitz, who will be coming to Kalamazoo from Hildesheim, Germany, will be joining other newcomers incoming freshman Kennosuke Nouchi and junior college transfer Kristofer Knof as the 2016-17 Broncos will look to defend their title as the Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season and tournament champions.
“(Assistant Coach) Nadin Indre and I spent a lot of time this spring looking for an impact player and I think Jannik will be that type of player early in his career,” Morin said. “Not only is he an outstanding player, but he’s also an honor student that will study either business and biology.”
