Revamped Rams ready for home opener
TORONTO – After splitting their season opening road trip, the Ryerson Rams women’s soccer team is ready to kickoff a four-game homestand this weekend at Downsview Park.
Last year’s Rams had trouble scoring the ball but so far the 2019 edition of the squad looks to have righted that wrong. Through two games Ryerson has scored four goals, which puts them third in OUA scoring and tops amongst OUA east division teams.
Defensively the Rams have also looked impressive, allowing just six shots on goal against which has made goalkeeper Elisa Lapadula’s (Brampton, Ont.) life relatively easy in the early going.
The Rams get the weekend action started on Saturday afternoon when they host the Queen’s Gaels in a rematch of the season opener just last Saturday. The Gaels and Rams battled to a 1-1 draw in the opening 45 minutes before Queen’s scored in the 64th minute to earn a 2-1 win over Ryerson on August 31st in Kingston.
Ryerson is looking to flip the script on the Gaels on their home turf.
The next day the Rams will take on the RMC Paladins, also for the second time in the early season. Last Sunday the Rams scored three goals in the second half to earn a 3-0 win at the Navy Bay Fields.
The Rams dominated the Paladins in scoring opportunities and outshot the Kingston-based squad 17-1 last time out. Ryerson will be looking for more of the same on September 8th.
Third year defender BreAnah Webster (Pickering, Ont.) had a strong start to her season, recording two assists this past weekend. Her efforts earned her the Athlete of the Week nod and she will look to continue her solid play this weekend.
Saturday’s home opener is Community Soccer Day and is open to all house league and club soccer teams with free admission and free parking! If your team is interested in participating in the pre-game player escort, RSVP here to reserve your spot!
