Men's basketball welcomes Paris native Dumont to roster
TORONTO — Ryerson’s men’s basketball team announced today the addition of Paris native Tom Dumont to their 2019-20 recruiting class.
Dumont is set to hit the court for the Rams in October.
“As an international student-athlete, Tom brings tremendous experience on and off the court to our team,” says Rams coach Borko Popic. “His size, shooting ability and basketball IQ are extremely exciting additions to our program. We look forward to having him join our family.”
Dumont will join the Rams after spending much of last season with Bridgton Academy, a college preparatory school in Bridgton, Maine.
Before making the jump to North American hoops, Dumont played three seasons (2015-2018) for Hermine Nantes Basketball in France. Dumont names a particular league game as the highlight of his athletic career thus far, one in which he hit 10 shots from beyond the arc and totalled 38 points through four quarters.
The guard self-describes as a “dedicated, coachable, quiet, and unselfish player”, adding that he can “shoot from deep and drive to the rim.”
Dumont graduated from C.E.N.S. Nantes, a private sports high school in Route de la Jonelière, France. He began working towards his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Ryerson earlier this week and says he decided to attend the university for three simple reasons.
“I chose Ryerson because [it’s] a great school, a unique environment, and has the best basketball program in Canada,” says Dumont.
