TORONTO — Ryerson’s men’s basketball team announced Tuesday the addition of Diar Alkaldy to their 2019-20 recruiting class, named as the team’s third commitment of the upcoming season.

A guard from Hamilton, Ont., Alkaldy joins the Rams after spending last season with Oakville Prep.

“We are very happy to add Diar to our basketball program,” says Rams head coach Borko Popic. “He has tremendous potential and will be a big piece of our program’s future.”

Prior to and during his time at Oakville Prep, Alkaldy spent the last two seasons playing for Hoops Canada and was named a Hamilton League All-Star in both 2017 and 2018. A graduate of St. Thomas More CHS in Hamilton, Alkaldy also played four years on the school’s senior basketball team and was named team MVP in his final season.

“I am extremely hard working and just try to be the best player I can be every day,” self-describes Alkaldy. “I sacrifice for my teammates and really will do whatever it takes to win. I understand the process of what it takes to become a great player and I enjoy the grind.”

Alkaldy is set to enter Ryerson’s Arts and Contemporary Studies in the fall.

“I chose Ryerson because they take their athletics and academics very seriously,” says Alkaldy. “Being in downtown Toronto is a great opportunity because of the people you will meet and the connections you can make.”

Alkaldy becomes the third player to enter Ryerson men’s basketball’s 2019-20 recruiting class.  Stay up-to-date on all commitment announcements by checking back to our our website or following us on Twitter, @RyersonRams.
