Ryerson men's hockey releases 2019-20 schedule
TORONTO — Ryerson’s men’s hockey team officially released their 2019-20 regular season schedule, headlined by three key games during the upcoming year.
The team is set to open their regular season campaign on October 10, 2019, against the Guelph Gryphons at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Rams saw great success last year, boasting a 20-5-3 regular season record and finishing first in the OUA West. But, a 3-4 loss to the Gryphons in game three of the second round saw the Rams bow out of postseason contention in round two for the fourth straight year.
The loss of captain Alex Basso and several other seniors delivered a hard-hitting blow, but the Rams still house two of the best players in the country in Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont.) and Mathew Santos (Toronto, Ont.). Along with the supporting cast and crew, the pair will likely play a big role in the outcome of the 2019-20 regular season.
This year, the Rams will look to qualify for the 2020 U SPORTS Men’s Hockey National Championship for the first time in program history. The tournament will be hosted by Acadia University in Nova Scotia from March 12-15, 2020.
The full schedule can be found here.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2019 | RYERSON RAMS VS. QUEEN’S GAELS, FREE FOR ALL
Building on the success of last year’s Back To School Bash, Ryerson will host the Queen’s Gaels in a September preseason game at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The exhibition matchup will be free for all to attend.
After knocking off the regular season champion Ottawa Gee-Gees in the first round of last year’s playoffs, the Gaels went on to capture their first Queen’s Cup title since 1981. The Rams will look to spoil their fun as they get set to host the Gaels in mid-September.
Puck drop is set for 7:15 PM. Stay tuned for more details about the game!
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2019 | RYERSON RAMS VS. GUELPH GRYPHONS, HOME OPENER
The Rams and the Gryphons will face off in Ryerson’s home and season opener on October 10. Ryerson was eliminated from postseason contention at the hands of the Gryphons last year, and it’s crucial that the Rams find a way to assert dominance over Guelph in this year’s matchup.
The rivals will each look to kick off their new seasons on a positive note, but the Rams will likely feel as though they have a little bit more to prove in this one.
Puck drop is set for 7:15 PM on Mattamy Home Ice.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 17, 2020 | RYERSON RAMS VS. YORK LIONS, WINTER HOMECOMING
January 17 sees the return of WOCO, a fan favourite at Ryerson.
Last year’s WOCO saw hundreds of fans flock to the stands despite the blizzard-like conditions outside, cheering on their Rams as they emerged with a 7-6 victory over York in front of a nearly packed house at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The York-Ryerson rivalry only continues to heat up with every passing season, and you won’t want to miss this year’s chapter of the matchup.
As always, the puck will drop at 7:15 PM and Ryerson students gain free admission with a valid OneCard.
